In around 2 years from now, the Chenab river in Jammu & Kashmir will be spanned by the world’s highest railway bridge that is likely to be 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.
- Cost of the Bridge: INR 1,100 Crore (approx US$ 171.1 Million)
- Steel Consumption: 24,000 tonnes
- Height: 359 m above the river bed.
- Designed to withstand wind speeds of up to 260 kilometres per hour, the 1.315 kilometres long “engineering marvel” will connect Bakkal (Katra) and Kauri (Srinagar). Source: RailAnalysis
