After smashing several box office records in its first week, Ranbir Kapoor and Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanju reached another milestone on Thursday. The film became the second film after Bahubali 2 (Hindi only) to score a double century in 7 days despite being a non-holiday release.
As per the box office reports, the film earned 16.10 crores on first Thursday to take its total domestic box office collection to 202.51 crores after 7 days. The collection remained steady in the first week and it never went below 15 crores. The film did not get any holiday or long weekend but rocked the box office because of its content. Looking at the current trend at the ticket windows, it seems that the second-weekend collection should cross 50 crores. If it scores 50+ crores in the second weekend, it will easily touch 300 crores by the end of the second week or in the third weekend. There is no major release for the next two weeks which will boost its lifetime collection.
Sharing the latest box office figures of Sanju on Twitter, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, “#Sanju is 200 NOT OUT… Has an EXTRAORDINARY Week 1… Crosses *lifetime biz* of #3Idiots [₹ 202.47 cr] in 7 days… Fri 34.75 cr, Sat 38.60 cr, Sun 46.71 cr, Mon 25.35 cr, Tue 22.10 cr, Wed 18.90 cr, Thu 16.10 cr. Total: ₹ 202.51 cr. India biz.”
Only Bahubali 2 and Sanju are two Hindi films that earned about 200 crores in the first week despite being a non-holiday release. It proves that the content is the king.
