Salman Khan’s Sultan Has an Average Opening in China

Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer sports drama Sultan did not find many takers at the Chinese box office on its day 1. As per the box office reports, the film earned $940,000 (about 6.66 crores) on its opening day. It has recorded the seventh biggest opening of all time for a Hindi film in China. The figures are at par with that of the Aamir Khan-starrer 2014 film PK. Salman Khan’s Bajrangi Bhaijaan had a better opening in China and it had amassed $ 2.25 mn on its first day. Sultan is running on 36000 screens, so it will be interesting to see if it can pull its socks up over the weekend.

Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh posted the film’s collection on Twitter. “#Sultan – Salman Khan’s second film and Yash Raj’s first to release in China – does not live up to the monumental expectations… Has a disappointing Day 1 in China… Fri $ 940,000 [₹ 6.66 cr] / 36,474 showings #BajrangiBhaijaan collected $ 2.25 mn [19,892 showings] on Day 1.“, he wrote.
