As expected, a good content helped Rajkummar Rao’s latest film Newton recover from a bad opening. As the film does not feature any big star, the opening collection was less than 1 crore. But the positive feedback from critics and moviegoers worked as a catalyst for an excellent first weekend collection.
As per the box office reports, the film collected about 7 crores in its first weekend. The daily collection in the first weekend is as follows: Fri 96 lakhs, Sat 2.52 crores, Sun 3.50 crores. The movie is also India’s official entry for the 90th Academy Awards which will take place on 4 March 2018, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. Newton is the first Indian film to to receive a grant of Rs 1 crore from the Central Government. The film is expected to continue its momentum during weekdays too and the first week collection may be 12-14 crores.
