Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey had a poor opening at the Indian box office. The movie’s release was postponed by a week due to KGF2, but the strategy did not work as expected. KGF2 remained the first choice for moviegoers even in the second week. The story of Jersey is based on cricket, and the Indian audience is fed with too much cricket everywhere. Bollywood has been busy with cricket, biography, the remake of south movies, and mindless action-comedy films, and hence Bollywood films are not getting enough footfall in the theatre. From the trailer, it was pretty evident that the film would fail at the box office. The movie has mixed reviews from critics and the audience, so its box office fate is sealed now. As per our estimates, the film should collect 15-16 crores on the first weekend and 22-25 crores in its lifetime.
Jersey is a Bollywood romantic drama film written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. It is a remake of his 2019 Telugu film of the same title. It stars Shahid Kapoor as a former cricketer who returns to the game for his son’s wish of a jersey, alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapoor. The film is produced by Geetha Arts, Dil Raju Production, Sithara Entertainments, and Brat Films. Jersey was initially scheduled for a theatrical release on 28 August 2020 but was postponed multiple times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film was finally released on 22 April 2022.
