After shattering the opening day record of Shahrukh’s Happy New Year, SS Rajamouli’s most expensive Telugu epic film Baahubali – the Beginning continued its rampage at the box office on Saturday and Sunday. Riding on the strong words of mouth and positive critics review, the mega movie broke all the box office records set by any Indian film of any language. The juggernaut was limited to not only the domestic market, but it was also in the international market.
As per the box office reports, the movie amassed about 50 crores on Friday, 48 crores on Saturday, and 55 crores on Sunday to take its total domestic box office collection to 153 crores in the first weekend. No film in the history of Indian cinema has garnered 150+ crores in the domestic market in just 3 days. Prior to this movie, SRK’s Happy New Year was holding the record of 108 crores in 3 days. There are some media reports that say that Bahubali is only Indian film that grossed more than 100 crores worldwide in less than 30 hours. This film also set a new record for the dubbed Hindi version – the Hindi version collected 22.35 crores in the opening weekend. Now the movie is heading towards 225-235 crores in the first week and might cross 300 crores figure by the end of the second weekend.
